What Is Start Proud

Start Proud aims to connect LGBTQ+ students with employers, while promoting the development of LGBTQ+ professionals, and celebrating the achievements and service of those in the community.

We facilitate the professional development of LGBTQ+ students as they transition from school to career in order to build a national network within the community. About the Role:

The External Initiatives Associate Pool supports Start Proud’s key programs and events by staffing volunteers across various initiatives. In this entry-level role, you will be assigned to projects based on your interest and availability, working with teams to deliver impactful initiatives such as Out On Bay Street (OOBS), Leaders to be Proud Of, the Mentorship Program, and Workshops.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to the planning and execution of these programs, working closely with initiative leads and team members to support everything from event logistics to marketing and community engagement. Your contributions will help further Start Proud’s mission of empowering the LGBTQ+ community through leadership and inclusion programs.

In this role you will:

  • Supporting Key Initiatives: Assist in the planning and execution of Start Proud’s flagship programs, including OOBS, Leaders to be Proud Of, and the Mentorship Program. Responsibilities may vary depending on the initiative but could include event logistics, marketing efforts, volunteer coordination, or community engagement.
  • Collaborating with Teams: Work alongside experienced team leads and other volunteers, contributing to the success of Start Proud’s external initiatives.
  • Engaging with the LGBTQ+ Community: Help further Start Proud’s mission of empowering the LGBTQ+ community through events and programs designed to promote leadership, mentorship, and inclusion.
  • Learning and Development: Gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, mission-driven environment, while developing valuable skills in project management, communication, and teamwork.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Interest in Event Planning and Community Engagement: A passion for organizing events, working with people, and making a meaningful impact within the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate well with others.
  • Flexibility and Commitment: Willingness to contribute based on availability, with the flexibility to support different initiatives based on the organization's needs.
  • Commitment to Start Proud’s Mission: A dedication to advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion and leadership through impactful programs.

Commitment

  • ~5-10 hours per month
  • Mandatory attendance at team team meetings
