What Is Start Proud

Start Proud aims to connect LGBTQ+ students with employers, while promoting the development of LGBTQ+ professionals, and celebrating the achievements and service of those in the community.

We facilitate the professional development of LGBTQ+ students as they transition from school to career in order to build a national network within the community. Our vision is to empower members of the LGBTQ+ community to be Canada’s leaders of tomorrow, where all institutions embrace inclusiveness within the workplace and diversity within the workforce.

About the Role:

he Executive Vice President (EVP) role is to support the President in all of their duties and to serve as a problem-solver and point of contact for everyone in the organization. Unlike the President, the EVP is more focused on operations.

The ideal candidate:

  • Understands and is committed to the goals, values, mission, and programs of the organization.
  • Stays apprised of issues and trends that may affect the organization.
  • Avoids any potential conflicts of interest
  • Understands and maintains confidentiality
  • Advocates for and supports the organization
  • Shares their unique passions, knowledge, and experience for the advancement of the organization

In this role you will:

  • Preparing for all meetings by reading the agenda, minutes, reports, and other documents necessary for active participation
  • Providing direction and support to volunteers in the execution of the organization’s operations
  • Regularly attending executive meetings and attending Board meetings as needed  
  • Leading the operations of the organization working closely with the President, the other Executive Vice President and the broader Vice President team to ensure execution of the organization’s mandate

Term:

  • Term: The EVP is selected by the Board for a one (1) year term, but can remain in the role for as many years as the Board determines to be in the best interests of the organization.
